BUCKY PROJECT

PROJECTS BLOG ABOUT CONTACT

These lights are inspired by Buckminster Fuller's work on geodesic domes. The shade is made out of maple veneer with aluminum hardware. The lights use an icosahedron geometry.

The light penetrates the wood which gives off a very warm tinted glow, highlighting the grain of the maple. The visible hardware highlights their mechanical nature and keep the shades easily disassemblable and repairable.

The shades are meant either as pendant lights or table/floor lights. To change the light bulb, the socket unscrews and the veneer rotate out of the way, and the socket comes out of the shade.
