BUCKY PROJECT

PROJECTS BLOG ABOUT CONTACT

In early 2010 the National Design Collective became curious how metal things are actually made. The theory was there, but hands-on is another thing altogether. Not wanting to quit our day jobs to work and play in a foundry, we decided to go small scale and experiment with silver casting.

Facet Rings.
Inspired by the traditional engineering ring, the facets catch light to give the appearance of a large gem stone while the randomized faces inspire the wearer to be creative.

Maps of Canada_Winnipeg.
Allows the wearer to carry a piece of their hometown with them wherever they go (More cities to come).

BUCKY-5

Gem Nuggets!
Hollow gem forms for the frugal exhibitionist in all of us. Give the appearance of luxury while maintaining an efficiency of materials.

Silver casting process shots and more information can be found on the blog here, and the finished map casting here.
